In the Gentilly neighborhood of New Orleans, a burst of gunfire on the evening of September 10, 2020, tragically cut short the life of 19-year-old Haushon Miller. A native of the city and a graduate of Helen Cox High School, he was affectionately known as 'Paw' to his loved ones. That night, Miller, along with several others, was leaving a home where they had been recording music in a studio.
As they were departing, an eruption of what witnesses described as a dozen gunshots shattered the peace. In the chaotic moments that followed, Miller, along with 17-year-old Frank Bedell and 19-year-old Khalil Allen, was fatally wounded. Two other individuals, a 19-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, were also struck by gunfire but survived.
The New Orleans Police Department responded to the scene and began an investigation that quickly led to two arrests. A 15-year-old male, who was seen running from the area, was apprehended on a gun charge. He was later charged with three counts of second-degree murder for the deaths of Miller, Bedell, and Allen. Due to his age, his name has not been publicly released. Alongside the teenage suspect, 19-year-old Maurice Lumar was also arrested on weapons charges, including possession of a stolen firearm. However, authorities have not named Lumar as a suspect in the murders themselves. The motive for the shooting has not been definitively stated by investigators, though one witness account suggested that after an initial round of shots were fired at the departing group, at least one person from that group may have returned fire. The investigation into the triple homicide is ongoing.
