In a quiet neighborhood in New Orleans, 84-year-old Sterling Bell was found deceased in his bed on June 25, 2023. Responding to a call, Seventh District officers discovered his body in the 8000 block of Old Gentilly Road. The initial discovery of his death soon turned into a homicide investigation.
The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office later determined that the elderly man had died from injuries related to being shot. For months, the case remained under investigation by NOPD Homicide Section detectives as they worked to piece together the events that led to Mr. Bell's death.
Nearly ten months later, on the morning of April 17, 2024, a breakthrough in the case led to an arrest. Investigators had identified 48-year-old Ted Lee Jordan Jr. as the primary suspect in the killing. Members of the NOPD's Special Operations Division took Jordan into custody in the 1700 block of Old Gentilly Road.
Following his arrest, Ted Lee Jordan Jr., a Black male, was booked into the Orleans Justice Center. He faces a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Sterling Bell.
