In the late summer of 2020, the community of Arcadia, Louisiana, was rocked by the tragic death of 32-year-old Edward Roberson. On the evening of September 11, Roberson was last seen getting into the passenger side of his own vehicle, with an unidentified man behind the wheel. The following day, September 12, 2020, his body was discovered inside his car at a local hangout spot known as the 'Oasis', located just off Highway 9, north of Interstate 20.
An investigation revealed that he had been fatally shot.
The Bienville Parish Sheriff's Office launched a homicide investigation into Roberson's death. Their efforts quickly led them to identify a person of interest who was believed to be the last person seen with Roberson before he was found deceased. Authorities identified the suspect as 23-year-old Jekendrick Rashard Vernon.
Based on the evidence gathered during the investigation, a warrant was issued for Vernon's arrest on a charge of second-degree murder. Law enforcement officials believed Vernon was the man seen driving Roberson's vehicle on the night of his disappearance. Vernon was subsequently taken into custody to face the charges related to the death of Edward Roberson.
