On September 22, 2021, a fatal shooting occurred in Southeast Albuquerque, resulting in the death of Shawn Lynch, a 34-year-old resident. The incident involved Xavier Raphael Marquez, who was subsequently identified and charged in connection with Lynch's murder.
Marquez, who was 22 years old at the time of the incident, was wanted by the Albuquerque Police Department on a homicide warrant for the fatal shooting of Shawn Lynch.
The event took place at 434 Kentucky St., N.E., in Albuquerque. Marquez shot and killed Lynch, and in the same incident, he also shot and injured Lynch's dog.
Following the shooting, Marquez was the subject of a manhunt, and he was eventually apprehended. On October 9, 2021, APD announced that Marquez had been arrested in Gallup, New Mexico, on the outstanding homicide warrant related to Lynch's death.
Marquez was later charged and pleaded guilty to the murder of Shawn Lynch. In addition to the murder charge, he was also charged with other offenses related to the incident. On October 16, 2023, Marquez was sentenced to 17 years in the Department of Corrections for his role in killing Lynch and injuring his dog.
It is noteworthy that Marquez was also implicated in another murder that occurred in June 2021. He was charged with the murder of Daniel Bustos, which took place at a Travel Lodge motel in Northwest Albuquerque. This case further highlighted Marquez's involvement in violent crimes within a short period in 2021.
