In the summer of 2021, a deadly feud between two men in Arcadia, Louisiana, claimed the life of 19-year-old Damarion Richardson and set off a tragic chain of events. On the evening of July 28th, Richardson was in the parking lot of Fastpak Foods, a convenience store on Second Street, when he was fatally shot. The male victim's death was the result of what law enforcement described as an ongoing dispute with another Arcadia resident.
Investigators quickly identified 24-year-old Shamichael
Murphy as the alleged shooter. Murphy was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder in connection with Richardson's death. At the time of the shooting, Richardson was accompanied by brothers Jamarcus and David Abbott. In the aftermath, Jamarcus Abbott was arrested and charged with simple battery and obstruction of justice. His brother, David, was sought for questioning regarding the shooting.
The violence did not end with Richardson's death. Just a few hours later, in the nearby town of Minden, a retaliatory drive-by shooting occurred at a home on Plum Street. Tragically, a three-year-old boy, Aldravion Taylor, was struck by gunfire and killed inside the residence. Authorities believe this senseless act was a direct response to Richardson's murder.
The investigation into the toddler's death led police to Damarion Richardson's cousin, 19-year-old Jacorein Richardson. He was identified as the suspected shooter in the Minden drive-by and was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder. The rapid succession of these two fatal shootings sent shockwaves through the small Louisiana communities, highlighting the devastating consequences of escalating violence.
