In the late hours of a Wednesday evening in Shreveport, Louisiana, a young man's life was cut short, leaving a void in the community. On March 10, 2021, Kelvin Braziel, a 23-year-old male, was found deceased. The discovery was made in the 800 block of West 67th Street, where officers responded to reports of a shooting.
Upon their arrival at the scene, law enforcement found Braziel suffering from at least one gunshot wound to his upper body.
Despite the immediate response, his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident marked another life lost to gun violence in the city, prompting an investigation by the Shreveport Police Department.
In the days that followed, detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit diligently worked the case. Their investigation led them to identify a suspect, 21-year-old Eric D. Brooks. A warrant was secured for Brooks's arrest on the charge of second-degree murder, with a bond set at $250,000. On March 22, 2021, the U.S. Marshals' Task Force, acting on the warrant, located and apprehended Brooks, taking him into custody without incident. The arrest brought a measure of progress to the investigation, though the circumstances that led to the tragic shooting remained under investigation.
