In the spring of 2021, the life of 18-year-old Miguel Leon Jr., a young Black male from New Orleans, was tragically cut short. On the evening of Friday, April 9th, violence erupted at the intersection of Orleans and North Dorgenois streets. It was there that Leon sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, but despite their efforts, the young man could not be saved.
The incident was quickly classified as a homicide by the New Orleans Police Department, prompting an immediate investigation into the circumstances that led to the shooting. In the days that followed, the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office formally identified Leon as the victim.
