In the early morning hours of April 21, 2021, the life of 34-year-old Leroy Roy Crum III, a male resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was tragically cut short. Crum was discovered inside a vehicle on Greenwell Springs Road near Monterrey Boulevard, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The East Baton Rouge Coroner's Office later confirmed that his death was a homicide resulting from the shooting.
The initial investigation by Baton Rouge Police Homicide Detectives left the motive and
suspect unknown. As the investigation progressed, authorities released photos of an individual believed to have vital information regarding the shooting and sought the public's help in identifying them.
Several months later, on July 9, 2021, a significant development occurred in the case. With the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Task Force, the Baton Rouge Police Department arrested 27-year-old Niya Green. Investigators identified Green as the suspected gunman captured on surveillance video fleeing the area after the shots were fired. Following her arrest, Green was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. She faced charges of second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon for her alleged role in the death of Leroy Crum III.
