In a quiet Westwego neighborhood on a Saturday afternoon, the life of Bob Felix Comardelle, a 68-year-old male, was brought to a tragic and unexpected end. On May 22, 2021, shortly before 1 p.m., Comardelle and a companion arrived at his residence on Farman Street. As they pulled up, a man known to the family approached their vehicle and opened fire, fatally wounding Comardelle.
The witness, who was in the passenger seat, managed to exit the vehicle as the assailant momentarily
disappeared from his view. Moments later, a single gunshot echoed through the yard. The witness discovered the 36-year-old shooter deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The motive for the tragic events remains unclear, and at the time, the identity of the shooter was withheld by law enforcement pending notification of his family.
The incident was investigated as a murder-suicide, leaving a community in shock and a family to mourn the sudden loss of a man described as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Comardelle, a lifelong resident of Westwego and a self-employed commercial fisherman, was remembered for his love of swamp pop music, dancing, and spending time with his family. The case, being a murder-suicide, did not result in any arrests or a trial as the sole suspect was deceased at the scene.
