On the evening of New Year's Eve, December 31, 2023, Corey Warmington, a 32-year-old male, was tragically killed in Westwego, Louisiana. He was not the intended target of the violence that claimed his life, but rather an innocent bystander struck by a stray bullet.
The unfortunate series of events began earlier that day when a woman's car was stolen. She was able to track her vehicle to the 900 block of Beechgrove Boulevard in Bridge City.
After notifying the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office and having them process the recovered vehicle, she was waiting for a new key to be made. It was at this point that the individuals believed to have stolen the car returned to the scene and opened fire on her.
The woman escaped the barrage of bullets unharmed, but one of the projectiles penetrated the window of a nearby apartment, striking and killing Warmington. He was inside his residence at the Cypress Cove apartment complex at the time of the shooting, which occurred at approximately 9 p.m.
Authorities have stated that Corey Warmington had no involvement in the preceding car theft or the subsequent shooting. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating the homicide. As of early 2024, the investigation was ongoing, and authorities were asking for the public's help in identifying the suspects involved in the shooting. No arrests have been publicly announced in connection with the death of Corey Warmington.
