On a Sunday evening in November 2022, the life of Melvin Lashard Williams, a 40-year-old Black male, was cut short by gunfire in Shreveport, Louisiana. The Shreveport Police Department received a call around 9:30 p.m. on November 20th, reporting a shooting in the 7100 block of Pro Street, located in the Cedar Grove neighborhood. Upon their arrival at the scene, officers discovered Williams with a serious gunshot wound to his upper body.
Emergency medical services transported Williams to
Ochsner LSU Health hospital for treatment. Despite the efforts of the medical staff, the injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital. The incident was officially classified as a homicide, prompting an immediate and thorough investigation by the Shreveport Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit.
Detectives worked diligently to piece together the events that led to the shooting and to identify a person of interest. Their investigation soon pointed them toward a suspect, and they secured an arrest warrant for Jeremy Robinson, 33, on a charge of second-degree murder. With the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force, the search for Robinson commenced.
The manhunt for the suspected killer concluded on November 29, 2022, when Jeremy Robinson was successfully located and taken into custody by Shreveport Police and the U.S. Marshals Task Force. He was subsequently booked into the Shreveport City Jail to face the charge of second-degree murder for his alleged role in the death of Melvin Lashard Williams.
