In the summer of 2021, the life of 16-year-old Kar’Nas Coleman was tragically cut short. An African American male, Coleman was fatally wounded by gunfire on July 29, 2021, in Kenner, Louisiana. The incident led to the arrest of a 15-year-old, who was subsequently accused of the killing.
The story, however, did not end with an arrest. The violence that claimed Coleman’s life appeared to spark a retaliatory act.
In January of the following year, a shooting targeted the very house where Coleman had been killed. At the time of this subsequent shooting, the 15-year-old suspect in Coleman's death was out on bail and present at the residence, though he was asleep and unharmed. The attack did result in injuries to a 10-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man.
Authorities identified Ronald Johnson as one of four individuals believed to be involved in the retaliatory shooting. Before he could be apprehended for his alleged role in that incident, Johnson himself became a victim of homicide. He was discovered shot multiple times in a Lacombe neighborhood in early 2023.
