On the morning of August 8, 2021, a 21-year-old male named Typolia Peters Jr. was fatally shot outside his apartment in the Lumberton Cove apartment complex, formerly known as Highland Park, in Bogalusa, Louisiana.
For over a year, the investigation into the death of Typolia Peters Jr. remained ongoing. Bogalusa Police Department detectives had identified suspects early in the case, but progress was hampered by a lack of witness cooperation.
Despite receiving anonymous tips, authorities struggled to find individuals willing to provide official statements that would lead to an arrest. Detectives continued to work the case, persistently seeking a breakthrough.
More than 13 months after the shooting, a cooperating witness came forward and positively identified the shooter. This pivotal development allowed detectives to secure arrest warrants for Broderick Chatmon Jr., a 21-year-old resident of Bogalusa. Chatmon had been considered a suspect from the early stages of the investigation. The warrants issued for Chatmon included charges of first-degree murder, aggravated criminal damage to property, illegal use of a dangerous weapon, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
At the time the warrants were issued, Chatmon was incarcerated in Harris County, Texas, on separate weapons charges. Following the resolution of his legal matters in Texas, he was extradited to Bogalusa to face the charges related to the death of Typolia Peters Jr. In August 2024, Broderick Chatmon was booked by the Bogalusa Police Department.
