On October 4, 2021, the life of 40-year-old Beau Plaisance, a male resident of Cut Off, Louisiana, was tragically cut short. The events of that day unfolded at a residence on West Main Street, where an altercation led to his untimely death. Plaisance was fatally shot in the head, a violent end to a dispute that would soon become the subject of a thorough police investigation.
The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office was alerted to the incident when Plaisance's girlfriend, who had witnessed
the harrowing event, reported the shooting. Responding deputies quickly secured the scene and discovered Plaisance's body near the back door of the home. As the investigation commenced, authorities identified a suspect, Rogelio Xavier Ledezma, and launched a search for him, cautioning the public that he was believed to be armed. The search concluded later that same day with Ledezma's apprehension.
Following his arrest, Ledezma was charged with second-degree murder in connection with Beau Plaisance's death. During a recorded interrogation, he admitted to the shooting. The investigation revealed that after the shooting, Ledezma had moved Plaisance's body with the intention of burying it and had returned the shotgun used in the incident to a gun cabinet in an attempt to conceal the crime.
Ledezma's legal proceedings saw him initially plead not guilty, later changing his plea to not guilty by reason of insanity. After a competency evaluation determined he was fit to stand trial, the case moved forward. In September 2023, a jury unanimously found Rogelio Ledezma guilty of the second-degree murder of Beau Plaisance. Consequently, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence, bringing a legal conclusion to the tragic death of Beau Plaisance.
