On Thursday, June 19, 2008, in the Mattapan neighborhood of Boston, Torres was fatally shot. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. at 742 Cummins Highway, where he was pronounced deceased. The Boston Police Department subsequently determined his death to be a homicide.
At the time, law enforcement and news reports indicated that the shooting was not a random act of violence. Investigators believed the killing was part of a troubling surge in gang-related retaliations that were gripping the city. Crime scene investigators meticulously worked the area outside the Cummins Highway location, marking and collecting evidence, including a large caliber shell casing, in their search for answers.
