On a summer evening in Boston, tragedy struck at the intersection of Blue Hill Avenue and Cheney Street. It was July 6, 2017, when 17-year-old Christopher Menard, a Black male, was fatally shot in the Grove Hall area of Roxbury. The incident, which also resulted in the injury of a 14-year-old boy, unfolded with startling proximity to law enforcement, as two Boston Police officers on their beat were less than 50 feet away when the shots were fired.
