On December 30, 2021, Michael Anthony Florent Jr., a 19-year-old male, was fatally shot in the Mid-City neighborhood of New Orleans. The incident occurred in the 500 block of South Clark Street, where police discovered him deceased shortly after 7 p.m. Another 19-year-old, Melvin Meredith, was also killed in the same incident.
Michael, known affectionately as 'Mikey,' was a lifelong resident of Marrero, Louisiana.
A 2020 graduate of Edna Karr High School, he was a promising sophomore and honor student at the University of New Orleans, where he was majoring in Computer Engineering. He was an active and ambitious young man, involved in both the football team and the band during his high school years. Known for his infectious smile and compassionate nature, Michael had a passion for photography and music production. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to create his own clothing line, 'ELOCIN.' He was a member of the National Honor Society, The Silverback Society, and the Men of Honor.
As of early 2024, the case into Michael Florent Jr.'s death remains open. Law enforcement has not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the shooting. Crimestoppers is offering a reward for information that leads to the resolution of this homicide case.
