In the late hours of a Monday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a verbal dispute escalated into deadly violence, claiming the life of Idris Abdul Malek. The 59-year-old African American man was shot and killed on January 17, 2022, on Eddie Robinson Sr. Drive.
The altercation, which occurred around 10:29 p.m., resulted in Malek being fatally wounded at the scene. A second male victim was also struck by gunfire, sustaining a wound to the torso.
He was transported to a local hospital and was expected to survive his injuries.
Baton Rouge Police Homicide Detectives promptly began an investigation into the double shooting. Authorities have publicly stated that the incident remains an ongoing investigation. To date, there has been no information released to the public regarding any arrests made in connection with the shooting, nor have any suspects been publicly identified. Law enforcement has urged anyone with information pertinent to the case to come forward and contact the Violent Crimes Division or Crime Stoppers.
