Jose Aquirre, a 47-year-old Hispanic male, was found with multiple gunshot wounds inside his home in the Bayou St. John neighborhood of New Orleans on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 19, 2022. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Responding to the incident, the New Orleans Police Department quickly identified a suspect in the fatal shooting. Investigators focused on Aquirre's 23-year-old stepson, Enrique J. Garcia.
According to neighbors, the two men had been involved in an ongoing domestic dispute.
Later that same day, police located and arrested Garcia without incident. He was subsequently booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on a charge of second-degree murder. Sheriff's Office records indicated that Garcia had no prior arrests in New Orleans. The investigation pointed to the strained relationship between the two as the motive for the deadly encounter.
