In the early morning hours of February 19, 2022, a tragic event unfolded in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, leading to the death of 55-year-old Leslie Blackburn. Blackburn, a male, was discovered with a gunshot wound to his midsection in the 13000 block of South Choctaw Drive at approximately 2:46 a.m. He was quickly transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Blackburn succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
The initial investigation into the shooting left the Baton Rouge Police Department with few leads, as the motive and potential suspects were unknown. Before he died, Blackburn was able to tell officers that a vehicle had approached him as he was walking, and someone inside shot him before driving off. He also indicated that there was no attempt to rob him. Investigators at the scene were unable to locate any shell casings, a weapon, or any property damage related to the gunfire.
A significant development in the case came on April 13, 2022, with the arrest of 31-year-old Anna Bartholomew. She was taken into custody for her alleged involvement in Blackburn's death. Bartholomew was subsequently booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. Authorities have stated that they believe the motive for the shooting was armed robbery. Bartholomew is now facing serious charges, including first-degree murder, armed robbery, and illegal use of a weapon.
