In the early morning hours of March 21, 2022, Darrin Jude Williams, a 27-year-old male known to his loved ones as 'Duke,' was tragically killed in a violent encounter inside a New Orleans apartment complex. Williams, along with two other individuals, Amya Cornin, 21, and Nehemiah Jones, 24, were fatally shot in what authorities would later describe as a triple homicide.
The incident unfolded shortly after 3 a.m., leaving a scene of violence that would soon launch a significant police
investigation. As the community mourned the loss of three young lives, investigators began the arduous task of piecing together the events that led to the deadly shooting. Their efforts would soon focus on a single suspect believed to be responsible for this and another recent killing.
The investigation led authorities to 18-year-old Tyrone Steele. Evidence gathered by the New Orleans Police Department implicated Steele in the triple homicide, as well as the separate fatal shooting of 20-year-old Shane Brown, whose body was discovered in a city canal just five days after the apartment complex shooting. Faced with mounting pressure from law enforcement, Steele, along with seven other individuals, surrendered to the NOPD's Special Operations Division on the evening of March 30. A search of the residence where Steele was found resulted in the seizure of seven firearms. Steele was subsequently booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on four counts of first-degree murder.
