In the heat of a Louisiana afternoon on June 23, 2022, Richard Demond Marquise Eackels Sr., a 27-year-old African American male, was at a car wash on Perkins Road in Baton Rouge, a mundane task on any other day. Accompanying him in his vehicle were two young children and another adult male. The afternoon took a tragic turn when another vehicle pulled up beside Eackels at the vacuum area of Benny's Express Car Wash.
