In the late evening hours of July 19, 2022, a domestic incident in Monroe, Louisiana, tragically escalated, leading to the death of 42-year-old Milton Smith. Officers from the Monroe Police Department were dispatched to the 200 block of North 21st Street shortly after 10:00 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Milton Smith suffering from a gunshot wound to his groin area.
Emergency medical services transported Smith to a local hospital for treatment.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed towards a domestic dispute that had occurred outside a residence just prior to the fatal shot being fired.
Detectives investigating the case were able to identify Rufus Sellers as the suspect in the shooting. Following the investigation, a warrant was issued for Sellers' arrest on the charge of second-degree murder. Authorities have asked for the public's assistance in locating him.
