On a September day in Houma, Louisiana, the life of 42-year-old Larry Durain Mayo Jr. was tragically cut short. The male victim was in the 100 block of Grinage Street around 7:30 p.m. on September 26, 2022, when he was fatally wounded in a shooting. Mayo, who was known to his loved ones by the nickname 'Bean,' was a father to one daughter. Born in Sulphur, Louisiana, he had previously worked for an environmental service in New Orleans.
The investigation into Mayo's death led authorities
to identify multiple suspects. An 18-year-old male from Houma was apprehended and charged with second-degree murder. Another individual, a 20-year-old man, also from Houma, was arrested and faced a charge of principal to second-degree murder. The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office continued to search for at least one other person believed to be involved in the incident.
The motive for the shooting was not immediately made public by law enforcement officials. Following his death, Mayo's family held a funeral service in Lake Charles, and he was laid to rest in Perkins Cemetery. His obituary remembered him as a man who would be cherished by his daughter, mother, sisters, brothers, and a host of other relatives and friends.
