An African American male from Baton Rouge, Travis was walking along the well-known thoroughfare around 8 p.m. when he was approached by another individual, also from his hometown. In a sudden act of violence, Travis was shot multiple times.
Despite immediate medical attention and being rushed to a nearby hospital, his injuries proved fatal. The incident cast a somber shadow over the Thanksgiving weekend in the city, prompting a public address from the New Orleans Police Department.
The investigation into the death of Keyron Travis moved swiftly. Two days after the shooting, New Orleans Police Chief Shaun Ferguson announced that an arrest had been made. The suspect was a 15-year-old male, whose name was initially withheld due to his age. It was later revealed to be J'Kari Campbell.
