On April 8, 1908, Patrolman August Lind, aged 50, of the Danville Police Department in Illinois, was fatally shot while responding to a burglary. Lind, who had served with the department for 20 years, was survived by his wife and three children. He was investigating a report of a burglary when he encountered two suspects. During the confrontation, one of the suspects shot him, and Lind succumbed to his injuries two days later on April 10, 1908.
