On September 6, 1908, Chief of Detectives Patrick Gill, a 38-year-old male from East St. Louis, Illinois, was tragically killed in the line of duty. Detective Gill, who was of Caucasian ethnicity, was responding to a residential burglary call on the 1100 block of Pennsylvania Avenue.
