Willie Kirk Fredd, a 54-year-old African American male, was tragically murdered on January 27, 1981, in Rockford, Illinois. Fredd, who owned Fredd's Groceries, was shot and killed along with his stockboy, 20-year-old Albert Pearson, during an armed robbery. The perpetrator, Raymond Lee Stewart, was later identified as the culprit behind a series of murders and armed robberies that took place in Rockford and Beloit, Wisconsin, over the span of a week.
