Detective Wayne G. King, aged 53, was a dedicated officer of the Chicago Police Department, having served for 24 years. On July 12, 1985, Detective King was fatally shot during an arrest attempt in the 100 block of East 51st Street. He was investigating individuals impersonating police officers and city inspectors.
