Deputy Sheriff John Mullen Sack, a 45-year-old white male, tragically lost his life on October 1, 1987, in Peoria, Illinois. Deputy Sack was serving a warrant on a man for a code violation related to not cutting his grass. The incident occurred at 2102 North University Street. As Deputy Sack exited the residence to wait for the man to retrieve his ATM card to post bail, he was shot in the back. The shooter was subsequently killed in the ensuing standoff with law enforcement.
