Cael Thornton, an 8-year-old African American boy, tragically lost his life on September 29, 2022, in West Peoria, Illinois. Cael was found shot to death alongside his mother, Quadreka S. Payne, in their home. The incident was a result of a violent altercation between Quadreka and her husband, Rickey J. Payne, who was Cael's stepfather.
