Alejandro "Alex" Valadez, a 27-year-old Hispanic male, was a dedicated police officer with the Chicago Police Department. On June 1, 2009, while responding to a call of "shots fired" in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago, Officer Valadez and his partner, Officer Thomas Vargas, were investigating the scene when a vehicle approached.
