On May 15, 2013, at approximately 12:30 a.m., 22-year-old Jarell Doston was fatally shot in Chicago's Back of the Yards neighborhood. Doston and a 25-year-old male companion were traveling in a vehicle along the 6300 block of South May Street when an assailant emerged from a gangway and opened fire. Both men sustained gunshot wounds and were transported to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
Doston succumbed to multiple gunshot injuries to his head, chest, and arm, while his companion suffered a gunshot wound to the left shoulder.
In October 2013, Charles Moore, an 18-year-old resident of the Greater Grand Crossing area, was arrested and charged in connection with the shooting. Moore faced charges of first-degree murder for the death of 22-year-old Jarell Doston and attempted murder for wounding the 25-year-old man. Authorities alleged that Moore was the individual who fired upon the victims' vehicle during the May 15 incident. Following his arrest, Moore was scheduled to appear in bond court.
