Andre Hunter, a 19-year-old African American male from Chicago, IL, tragically lost his life on December 19, 2013. Andre, known for his musical talent as a member of the Bucket Boys, was walking home from Chatham Academy Charter High School with friends when they were approached by a group of suspects around 2:35 p.m. The confrontation quickly escalated when one of the suspects, Iman Frison, an 18-year-old male, produced a revolver and pointed it at Andre's chest.
Despite Andre's attempt to deflect the weapon, Frison shot him twice, causing him to fall to the ground. Frison then fired three more shots before the gun jammed.
Andre was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The incident left his family and community in shock, struggling to comprehend the senseless violence that claimed the life of a promising young musician. Andre and his friends used their drumming skills on upside-down five-gallon buckets to earn money and stay away from the dangers of street life.
Following the shooting, Iman Frison was arrested after a brief pursuit and charged with first-degree murder. The case drew significant attention, highlighting the ongoing issues of gun violence and youth crime in Chicago. Frison's arrest and subsequent charges brought some measure of justice to Andre's grieving family, but the loss of such a young life remained a poignant reminder of the city's struggles with violence.
