Deonta Dewight Mackey, a 16-year-old African American male, died on February 10, 2014, in Chicago, IL. His death occurred during an attempted robbery at a Citgo gas station on the South Side of Chicago. Mackey, along with two other individuals, confronted an off-duty Cook County Sheriff's sergeant at gunpoint, demanding his wallet. The sergeant, in self-defense, drew his own weapon and shot Mackey, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
