Rakim J. Vineyard, a 22-year-old African American male from Champaign, Illinois, was tragically shot and killed on July 19, 2014. The incident occurred around 12:24 p.m. in the 1000 block of North Sixth Street in Champaign. Vineyard was found with multiple gunshot wounds and succumbed to his injuries shortly after the shooting. The Champaign Police Department immediately launched an investigation into his death, which was part of a troubling pattern of violence in the area at the time.
