Nigell Vazquez, a 22-year-old male from Chicago, IL, tragically lost his life on September 4, 2014. On that fateful evening, Nigell was sitting alone on a porch in the 8600 block of South Ingleside Avenue in the East Chatham neighborhood when two individuals approached him. Without warning, they pointed their guns and opened fire, striking Nigell multiple times.
He was quickly transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he succumbed to his injuries from multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation into Nigell Vazquez's death led to the arrest of Erick T. Horton, a 34-year-old man from the 10800 block of South Edbrooke Avenue. Horton was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting. According to court documents, Horton had no prior criminal record and was unemployed at the time of the incident. During a court appearance, Horton was ordered to be held in lieu of $1 million bail. The case against Horton was set to proceed with his next court appearance scheduled for October 20, 2014.
