On January 14, 2015, Terrence Harris, a 24-year-old African American man, was fatally shot in Chicago's Ashburn neighborhood. At approximately 5:52 p.m., Harris was walking through a gangway in the 8100 block of South Artesian Avenue when he was approached by two individuals. One of the assailants, later identified as 23-year-old Omar Dixon, announced a robbery and shot Harris in the chest.
Harris, who resided in the 9200 block of South Elizabeth Street, was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Following the incident, Omar Dixon fled Illinois and was apprehended in Madison, Wisconsin. He was extradited to Chicago and charged with murder and armed robbery. At the time of Dixon's arrest, authorities indicated the involvement of a second suspect; however, information regarding this individual was not immediately available. Dixon was held on a bond exceeding $1 million and was scheduled to appear in bond court.
