Paul Forystek, a 39-year-old man from Lansing, Illinois, was tragically shot and killed on August 21, 2015. The incident occurred on the front porch of his home in the 18500 block of Walter Street. Witnesses reported that Forystek was involved in an argument with another man, later identified as Donald Margraff, a 36-year-old resident of Lansing. The altercation escalated, and Margraff allegedly shot Forystek multiple times before fleeing the scene in a tan SUV. Forystek was pronounced dead at 3:25 p.m. by the Cook County medical examiner's office, which ruled his death a homicide.
The investigation revealed that the shooting was not a random act but stemmed from a domestic issue. Margraff had picked up his youngest child from his ex-wife's home in Lansing and was supposed to collect his two older children from school. Instead, he stopped at a neighbor's house to leave the 3-year-old child and returned to his ex-wife's home, where Forystek answered the door. Margraff was apprehended by Lansing police later that evening near the intersection of 173rd Street and Torrence Avenue. He was found driving the SUV described by witnesses, and a pistol was recovered from inside the vehicle. Margraff was charged with first-degree murder and denied bond.
