The incident, which also claimed the life of 48-year-old Degang Zhang from Aurora, Illinois, was later determined to be a murder-suicide. According to the Will County Coroner's Office, Xinling Zhang died from multiple gunshot wounds, while Degang Zhang suffered a single gunshot wound.
The Bolingbrook Police Department responded to reports of an active shooter situation at approximately 9:30 a.m. on the day of the incident. Upon arrival, officers found both men deceased from gunshot wounds, with a firearm discovered near one of the victims. The police investigation revealed that Degang Zhang was the shooter, who fatally shot Xinling Zhang before turning the gun on himself.
