Brandon L. Kines, a 23-year-old male, was fatally shot in front of his home on Ottawa Drive in Bolingbrook, IL, in the early hours of August 24, 2019. Police responded to the scene at around 12:42 a.m. and found Kines with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 5:16 a.m. The Bolingbrook police identified the incident as a targeted and isolated event, noting that Kines' home had been the site of a previous shooting in
October 2018, although no one was injured in that earlier incident.
Following the investigation, Anthony S. Hite Jr., a 21-year-old male from Joliet, was arrested and charged with the murder of Brandon Kines. Hite was charged with three counts of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Additionally, he faced charges of obstructing justice and destroying evidence. Hite had his initial court appearance and was held in lieu of a $5 million bond. The police indicated that Hite had been temporarily staying at various locations in Bolingbrook at the time of the shooting.
The Bolingbrook police mentioned that there were several persons of interest in the case, and they continued to follow up on multiple leads.
