Antoinne Scott, a 32-year-old African American male from Springfield, Illinois, was tragically killed on November 27, 2015. The incident occurred early in the morning at his residence on East Brown Street. According to reports, an unknown number of individuals forced their way into Scott's home around 3:30 a.m. A confrontation ensued, during which shots were fired. Scott was found inside his home with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at 4:16 a.m. at HSHS St. John's Hospital. An autopsy later confirmed that he died from a gunshot wound, consistent with a homicide.
The investigation led to the arrest of two suspects, Cordaro D. Morton, aged 27, and Charles T. Rice, aged 22. Both men were charged with home invasion and armed robbery, with additional charges pending a review by the Sangamon County state's attorney's office. Morton, who was also charged with first-degree murder, was believed to have fired the fatal shot. He was held on a two million dollar bond, while Rice's bond was set at five hundred thousand dollars.
