William F. Dougherty, a 33-year-old man from Springfield, Illinois, tragically died on October 14, 2015, from a gunshot wound. Dougherty had only been released from prison on parole a week earlier, after serving an eight-year sentence for home invasion charges. On the night of his death, Dougherty was involved in a physical altercation at his home with two armed men. During the struggle, at least one shot was fired, striking Dougherty.
