On August 19, 2016, in Chicago's West Chatham neighborhood, Miles Alexander Kent, a 25-year-old Black/African American male, sat in a white vehicle on the 7600 block of South Lafayette Avenue just after 5 p.m. when gunfire erupted.
He was struck multiple times, including the chest, shoulder, and leg, and the scene bore the abrupt stillness that follows a burst of violence amid late-summer traffic and evening light.
