Maurice Delaney, a 38-year-old male of African American ethnicity from Skokie, Illinois, tragically lost his life on January 1, 2017, in Chicago. He was one of the first two homicide victims of the year in Chicago. Maurice, also known as "Head," was shot in the chest and right leg during an altercation at the Iyanze Bolat West African Cuisine restaurant in the Uptown neighborhood. The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. as a party was ending in the second-floor lounge area.
