Peter Puleo, a 34-year-old man from Chicago, IL, was tragically killed on January 9, 2018. The incident occurred in the Logan Square neighborhood on the Northwest Side of Chicago. According to reports, the fatal encounter began with a traffic incident between Peter Puleo and Marc Johnson, a 51-year-old man from the Austin neighborhood. The situation escalated when Johnson followed Puleo to a corner store in the 1600 block of North Albany.
Both men exited their vehicles and continued their argument as Puleo entered and exited the store. The confrontation turned physical when Puleo punched Johnson, causing him to fall. Johnson then retrieved a handgun and struck Puleo in the neck and head, resulting in a fatal gunshot wound. Puleo was pronounced dead at the scene, and his death was ruled a homicide by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Marc Johnson, who had a prior conviction for first-degree murder in 1988, was identified by multiple witnesses and surveillance footage. He was charged with first-degree murder and denied bond at a court hearing. Johnson's attorney noted that he lived with his mother and nephew and worked for a sewer repair company and occasionally as a truck driver. The case against Johnson was set to continue with a court date scheduled for February 6, 2018.
