Black male, age 24, Urstin Adams from Alsip, Illinois, was shot on the evening of Tuesday, February 6, 2018.
Police were called at about 6:22 p.m. to an apartment building in the 4600 block of West 131st Street, where officers found two men wounded in the vestibule.
One victim, 33 year old Andrew L. Scott Jr. of Hazel Crest, was pronounced dead at the scene; Adams, who lived on the block where the shooting occurred, was rushed from the building's entrance as paramedics worked in the winter cold.
Adams was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite treatment, he was pronounced dead at 1:05 p.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2018. The Cook County Medical Examiner ruled that both Adams and Scott died of multiple gunshot wounds and classified their deaths as homicides.
Detectives quickly signaled that this was not a random attack. According to statements shared with local media, police believed the victims may have known the shooter, and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force joined the investigation.
