Marqueis Gray, a 12-year-old boy from Decatur, Illinois, tragically lost his life on November 12, 2018. The incident occurred when Marqueis, who was African American, was accidentally shot in the chest by a family friend. The friend, Avante Flesch, was reportedly playing with a gun when it discharged, resulting in the fatal injury to Marqueis.
