Emelio Miranda, a 21-year-old male from Chicago, IL, was tragically shot and killed on January 6, 2019. The incident occurred in the Clearing neighborhood of Chicago. According to reports, Emelio had arranged to buy marijuana from 19-year-old Kamil Szczurek via Snapchat. On the night of the incident, a witness drove Emelio to the 6000 block of West 63rd Street, where the deal was supposed to take place.
During the transaction, an argument broke out between Emelio and Kamil, which quickly
escalated into a physical altercation. Both men exited the vehicle, and while standing on the street, Kamil shot Emelio in the face, resulting in his death. Kamil and an unidentified co-offender fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
The investigation into Emelio's death led to the identification of Kamil Szczurek as the shooter. A fingerprint left on the rear window of the vehicle Emelio arrived in, along with surveillance video showing Kamil walking near the scene just before the shooting, played a crucial role in identifying him. The witness who drove Emelio to the deal also identified Kamil as the shooter.
Kamil Szczurek was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Emelio's death. Additionally, he was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, as officers found a .40-caliber Glock in his possession during his arrest. Kamil made statements to detectives admitting that he pulled the gun on Emelio inside the vehicle and demanded everything. He was ordered held without bond and was scheduled to appear in court on June 14, 2019.
