Demetrius Ferguson, a 37-year-old African American male from Chicago Heights, was tragically shot and killed on the night of June 18, 2019, in University Park, Illinois. The incident occurred at approximately 10:20 p.m. in the 500 block of University Parkway. Responding officers found Ferguson with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to Franciscan St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields, where he was pronounced dead at 11:15 p.m. The Cook County medical examiner's office conducted an autopsy the following day and ruled his death a homicide.
Another individual was also injured in the shooting but survived after receiving medical treatment. The University Park Police Department has been investigating the case, but as of now, there have been no arrests or suspects identified in connection with Ferguson's murder. The police have urged anyone with information to come forward and have offered a reward of up to $5,000 for tips leading to an arrest and charges.
